Regarding the pictures you are about to see...

I only wish I had taken the "before" shots of a project I did recently. The job was a side entrance to an old house. The concept here, due to budget restraints, was not to demo and renovate with new materials. Instead, the idea was to give it a face lift by treating the walls
and the existing woodwork which was very beat up and in a relatively dark place. My job was to make something beautiful out of it. It really needed warmth, dimension, and interest. The owners of the house love the shore so we went with a shore theme and combined it with the Mediterranean color pallet of yellows which reflect the sun's moods, blues of the ocean, and the earthy tones of terra cotta. And after we added the furnishings the transformation was complete. And now you can feel the coziness in what used to be a dismal place.

Specs for the job:

Walls - venetian plastered using a warm yellow color, then added plaster stencils of aquatic life.
Wainscoting - painted a pleasant blue and antiqued.
Steps - faux painted to look sandy, and "blue diamonds" were added for a nice transition into the next room.
Doors - a whimsical smattering of yellows, cinnamons, whites as though they were aged by the sun.

Ceiling - painted white for a fresh uplifting quality and to help open the room a little more.
Furnishings - fish carvings, framed pictures, plants.

...enjoy
